Karen & Charlie

My decision to become a Childminder was the result of a friend having difficulty finding anyone to take his daughter to school. I offered to help out whenever I could, and found that I really enjoyed it. So when the opportunity arose for me to pursue it as a career I decided to go for it.

I have been registered since 2003, having studied at Barking College of Technology for my Cache (Council for Awards in Children's Care and Education) certificate, passing Unit 1 (Introducing Childminding Practice) in 2002. I went on to pass both Unit 2 (Developing Childminding Practice) and Unit 3 (Extending Childminding Practice) in 2003.

In August 2006 I completed my Quality First portfolio, an NCMA childminder quality assurance scheme, which shows that I exceed in meeting required standards related to my profession. I was extremely pleased with the certificate* and glowing report* that I received and my portfolio is available for both existing and new parents to see. I was also very pleased with my last Ofsted inspection* gaining an 'outstanding' grade in both 'helping children to stay healthy' and 'helping children to achieve well'.

I take my profession very seriously and work in partnership with all my parents to continually improve the service I provide. Regularly attending training opportunities to help achieve this.

I am a member of the NCMA* (National Childminding Association), registered with OFSTED* (Office for Standards in Education) and I have been police checked*, first-aid trained* and carry full public liability insurance*.

I live with my husband Les (Senior Ambulance Controller/IT technician), our little dog Charlie Cheese (a very friendly little chap who loves playing football and having his photo taken) and our two rabbits Kate and Leonardo.

*NB certificates will be produced at interview.
